Job Description

Dewberry | Edmonds is currently seeking a Commissioning Department Manager for our Nashville TN or Jackson MS office. Ideal candidate will be responsible for leading Commissioning projects that will range in size and complexity to achieve project deadlines and financial expectations.  Different functional areas of expertise may include Commissioning and Retro-Commissioning.  This position will functionally report directly to the Business Unit Manager or designated Team Leader.  This position requires significant client interaction.  Significant tasks also include scheduling, document preparation, field inspections and testing, report generation, problem resolution, quality assurance, data analysis, and deficiency resolution.  Typically this position is filled by persons who have been continuously performing commissioning for 7 years or more, or by persons who can demonstrate a record of successful project execution and leadership according to Dewberry core principles and values.

Responsibilities

  • Growing, mentoring, and developing the staff within discipline area to allow each person to achieve their maximum potential.

  • Organizing staff in a way to allow career advancement, professional development, quality client service, and operational efficiencies to meet business and project financial goals.

  • Taking a very active role in recruitment of staff in discipline area including networking, recruitment, interviewing and “deal closing”.

  • Significant tasks include preparing commissioning specifications, reviewing engineering design documents, preparing commissioning plans, reviewing contractor submittals, scheduling Cx tasks, document preparation (Issue Logs, Pre-Functional and Functional Test Procedures, etc.), field inspections, administering and witnessing testing, review and evaluation of trend data, review and verification of test and balance reports, reviewing close-out documentation, and preparation of a final Commissioning Report
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders (Building Owners, Contractors, Architects, Engineers, and management) on an ongoing basis.
  • Apply Dewberry’s commissioning process guides as well as industry standards i.e. executing work according to applicable industry standards ASHRAE Guidelines “0” and “1”, Building Commissioning Association Guidelines for Commissioning, to ensure project quality delivery.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and develop contingency plans.
  • Project management duties including managing project financials, coordinating resource requirements, preparing and negotiating fee proposals, managing sub-consultants, preparing sub-contracts, and client management.
  • Leading Cx presentations and project interviews, preparing responses to RFQs, and developing Cx scopes of work.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or similar technical discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relative experience required.
  • Experience with energy projects, facility engineering, HVAC, assessment/planning, peer review, design and/or consulting services (HVAC and automated controls and/or construction/renovation projects is strongly preferred).
  • Experience in Construction Administration and documentation procedures.
  • Direct Experience with commercial HVAC systems, Building Automation systems, and System Balancing.
  • PE License is a plus.
  • Commissioning Certification required (CxA, CBCP, etc.)
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be highly proficient with a PC including the Microsoft Applications and project management applications/packages (MS Project and other risk management tools) and risk management tools.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.
