Job Description

Dewberry is seeking a highly motivated and detail oriented Mechanical Engineering Intern to work with a project team and assist in the design of building mechanical system (plumbing, fire protection and HVAC) projects for our Raleigh, NC office for Summer 2025.

Responsibilities

The position requires a strong technical background, excellence in design, attention to detail and quality control, and the ability to work in a team environment. Job duties include the preparation of mechanical engineering calculations, reports, construction drawings, specifications, schedules and budgets for building mechanical and utility distribution systems under the supervision of a registered Professional Engineer. The candidate should be able to work in diverse teams and be successful interacting with project team members, clients and contractors. Written and oral communication and organizational skills are important throughout the design and construction process.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or similar equivalent
  • 0 -2 years of experience
  • Previous internship with a consulting engineering firm, a plus
  • Certification as an Engineering Intern (NCEES) and experience with Revit, AutoCAD, MS Word and MS Excel is a plus.
  • A valid driver’s license is required. Occasional travel might be required.

Program Information

Summer Intern Program
During the summer intern program, interns gain hands-on project experience, develop technical skills, and put their classroom knowledge into action. Our interns are assigned meaningful work and are given the opportunity to work on projects similar to what they would be engaging with as a full-time employee.

 

Our interns get the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops and events, including:
- Networking opportunities to meet other interns, staff, and senior leaders across the business.
- Learning about our services, projects, and clients.
- Professional development workshops, including a career planning workshop and a DiSC assessment to learn more about themselves and how to work effectively with others.

- Summer-long group project where interns work alongside firm leaders to address issues that will impact our future strategy.
