Job Description

Dewberry has an opportunity for an experienced Department Manager – Design-Build for our Cerritos, CA office to lead this department to win and execute projects of increasing complexity. This role is an excellent career opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented individual to lead a team of professionals. Under the Business Unit Manager of the Design-Builders group. the successful candidate will be managing a team of project managers, construction managers, technical, administrative, and field staff performing design-build and bid-build construction for both public and private clients in California, typically involving renovation, retrofit, and modernization of existing facilities.  The selected individual will significantly contribute to the business development of the department’s and office’s workload and will likely act as client manager of one or more public agencies and/or commercial clients.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a staff of project managers, construction managers, technical, administrative, and field staff.
  • Lead proposal pursuits, business development efforts, and oversee growing an existing construction practice in Southern California
  • Act as client manager manage one or more clients.
  • Reviews procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
  • Responsible for operations oversight, review of projects assigned to the department meeting revenue and profit goals.
  • Take part in the quality review of department projects.
  • Recruit, retain, develop, mentor, train and grow individual practitioners and teams.
  • Staff project teams with the right number and type of skill sets to contribute to successful delivery.
  • Collaborate pro-actively and productively with other department managers and market segment leads within the Business Unit as well as regional Dewberry leadership
  • Develop and implement strategies to rapidly grow revenue and client base within commercial and public market segments

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience is preferred
  • At least 15 years of experience in the A/E/C industry
  • Construction and project management experience preferred
  • Design-Build experience is desirable
  • Experience writing winning proposals and leading successful client interviews
  • Demonstrated Business Development expertise with experience in both public works and commercial solicitation/procurement/construction
  • Prior management experience with demonstrated leadership skill preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required
  • Occasional travel will be required
  • Driving is a requirement of the position.  A clean driving record is required

Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.

Salary Range

The projected range for this position is $131,000-$180,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
