Job Description

Dewberry is currently seeking an Senior Environmental Engineer with 12+years of experience for our NE Environmental Service team. The position will be located in Dewberry’s Boston, MA office. The successful candidate will perform a variety of environmental planning and engineering tasks. Responsibilities will include general project management; close coordinatation and communication with State and Municipal agencies including but not limited to MassDOT and MBTA; review of environmental reports and plans for conformance to local, state and federal regulations; report to, advise and assist the firms’s NE Environmental team with environmental related projects both locally and throughout the northeast market.  

 

The Senior Environmental Engineer must be flexible, client focused and capable of working independently to support the firm’s client base.  The work required is diverse and ranges from office work, general field support during construction, and review work that requires strong communication skills and a technical working knowledge of current local, state and federal environmental regulations. Other requirements include MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Adobe Acrobat. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Microstation and/or ArcGIS, Bentley software products and current OSHA 40-hr certification and/or other applicable certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Managing projects as a Project Manager or task leader.
  • Conducting extensive research, data collection, analysis and the preparation of written technical documentation pertaining to land use, policy, demographics including Environmental Justice populations, hazard, risk and vulnerability, transportation and transit, among others.
  • Writing and developing comprehensive planning documents and sustainability strategies.
  • Working collaboratively with other Subject Matter Experts to complete/review comprehensive environmental documents and preparing environmental applications for permititng.
  • Coordinating with federal, state, and local officials; community groups; academia; private sector; and public stakeholders in developing and/or reviewing plans.
  • Ability to plan and facilitating meetings, workshops, stakeholder outreach, public meetings and open houses.
  • Assigns tasks to engineers, technicians or administrative staff.
  • Plans and coordinates aspects of work.
  • Prepares and manages scope, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • 12+ years of experience
  • PE license strongly preferred
  • A masters in a related field may substitute for 2 years of experience.
  • Reports to and supports the NE environmental team.
  • Experience with MassDOT and MBTA procedures to achieve environmental compliance throughout all phases of a project.
  • Meets project, client and regulatory deadlines.
  • Works in a timely fashion to meet project budgets.
  • Working knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and requirements related to environmental permitting.
  • Communicates effectively with clients, coworkers, sub consultants, and county/agency review staff.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Handles multiple public and private sector clients.
  • Other duties as required.
