Job Description

Dewberry seeks a Virtual Design Manager to join our Design Technology Solutions team and drive innovation across engineering and architecture markets. This role requires a proactive approach to strengthening production workflows by anticipating challenges, implementing preventative strategies, and coaching project teams for stability and efficiency. In addition, the manager will translate engineering intent into clear, compelling visuals that enhance stakeholder decision-making and will collaborate on applications management, partnering with IT and CAD/BIM advocates to streamline installation, configuration, and deployment of design software.

This position is ideal for a hands‑on Civil 3D expert who can bridge model‑based production with visualization development, and who thrives in cross‑disciplinary collaboration on site-civil, water, wastewater, and energy transmission/distribution work.

Dewberry is a leading, market-facing  professional services firm with more than 60 locations and 2,500 professionals nationwide. What sets us apart from our competitors are our people. At Dewberry, we seek out exceptional talent and strive to deliver the highest quality of services to our clients. Whether you’re an experienced professional or a new graduate, you’ll have the chance to collaborate with the best and brightest and work on innovative and complex projects at the forefront of the industry. Our commitment to excellence stems from our personal integrity and from other defining attributes, which we call “Dewberry at Work,” that have inspired our employees to be successful for more than a half-century.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively develop and implement strategies to prevent workflow issues by anticipating challenges, optimizing standards, and coaching teams toward stable, efficient model practices.
  • Evaluate new software and workflows; pilot emerging technologies; recommend improvements to prevent recurring issues.
  • Build model‑based visualization assets (still images, animations, construction phasing videos) directly from engineering and architecture models; coordinate formats and fidelity with project teams; contribute to digital twin efforts.
  • Build and maintain custom part catalogs, templates, and styles; develop scripts or tools to automate repetitive tasks and enhance efficiency.
  • Support project teams with visuals and Civil 3D workflows for municipal water/wastewater, stormwater, resilience, and energy, aligning outputs to client standards and permitting needs.
  • Develop and deliver targeted training (Civil 3D fundamentals; advanced corridor/pipe workflows; standards usage); support discipline SMEs; and maintain concise self‑service guides for production teams.
  • Collaborate on role‑based software profiles and non‑disruptive deployments; help coordinate silent uninstall/install cycles; and contribute to SOPs that preserve users’ critical settings and Dewberry standards across upgrades.

Required Skills & Required Experience

Required

  • 15+ years of hands‑on Autodesk Civil 3D experience in civil production (surfaces, corridors, pipe networks, profiles), with evidence of problem-solving and team coaching.
  • Demonstrated visualization capability (e.g., 3ds Max, InfraWorks, Lumion/Twinmotion/Enscape/Unreal, or equivalent) and facility in converting engineering models into persuasive visuals.
  • Experience supporting water and/or power/energy projects (water/wastewater, stormwater, substation/T&D site/civil), including coordination with multi‑discipline teams.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with web‑based model viewing and analytics (e.g., Autodesk Platform Services plus Power BI) and related data‑publishing workflows.
  • Exposure to applications management: packaging versions/extensions, role‑based software profiles, upgrade orchestration, and settings preservation (Civil 3D/Revit/AutoCAD profiles, pipe catalogs, palettes, plot configs, etc.).
  • Scripting/automation experience (e.g., Dynamo for Civil 3D) to accelerate repetitive tasks and reinforce standards.
  • Bluebeam and Navisworks familiarity for markup, coordination, and phasing visuals.
