Dewberry is seeking a Stormwater Project Manager experienced in the design, construction oversight and business development of stormwater control and flood plain management infrastructure projects in our Denver, Colorado office.



Job Description

Develop, execute, oversee and lead assignments in the design of open channel major and minor creeks and rivers, storm sewer drainage systems, and solutions to complex hydraulic stormwater problems, which include using 2-Dimensional modeling software. Prepare and review working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports and work products.  Position also involves providing construction support and oversight including contract administration and project inspection by others and document review of designs prepared by others for conformance to design standards.  Must be capable of performing independent design tasks, preparing bid documents including drawings and specifications, and organizing all drawings, reports, calculations, and associated project deliverables.  Position requirements include staff hiring, directing and managing a team of design engineers and/or technicians on project execution.  Candidate must be capable of making sound engineering decisions, exercise initiative, judgment and knowledge commensurate with the responsibilities of the position. 


With internal support from Dewberry, the Project Manager will also assist with developing business, maintaining existing client relationships, developing new clients and business, and developing and supervising department staff for public and private sector stormwater work.


The successful candidate will be a Civil Engineer with experience developing and execution stormwater control and flood plain management projects. Candidate must possess good interpersonal skills to effectively interface with clients and Local, State, and Federal government agencies and be capable to lead project progress meetings, make project presentations, and provide clear written communications.


Some travel will be required.


Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an A.B.E.T. Accredited School
  • Ten (10) years of experience with the design and construction oversight of stormwater and/or surface water infrastructure facilities and projects
  • Professional certification as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)
  • Experience working on open channel, streambank restoration, and storm sewer projects
  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D, HECRAS, and hydrologic software is a plus.
  • Experience with any of the following is a plus:
    • 2-Dimensional modeling
    • GIS Systems and Programs
    • Water quality structure design
  • Public works design experience with local, State and Federal governments
  • Experience with the Colorado Urban Hydrograph Procedure (CUHP)
  • Strong client retention and business development skills including client contact, proposal production, interview and presentation
  • A successful track record of building stormwater client relationships in the Denver, CO market.
  • A successful track record of managing projects, including scope, schedule and budget
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to coach and mentor junior and mid-level staff

  • P.E. (Professional Engineer) State of Colorado or ability to obtain reciprocity.
