Dewberry is currently seeking a Facilities Construction Specialist based out of the Gainesville, VA office. Successful candidates will work on projects in the Washington Metropolitan area of VA\MD\DC. The successful candidate will monitor and inspect assigned elements of a construction project to ensure contractor’s compliance with the plans and contract documents, will track and monitor progress, and will prepare project documentation.
Assigned project elements will primarily involve transportation facilities. Some project elements may involve structures as well as site civil components. Duties include observing, and inspecting ongoing construction work for conformance with the contract documents, analyzing and interpreting project plans and specifications for constructability, attending construction progress meetings, monitoring contract conformance, and preparing quality record documentation.
Knowledge of vertical building construction, MEP systems, utilities construction methods, procedures, practices, plans, specifications and contracts, materials used and performance, environmental, legal and safety responsibilities related to construction of transportation facilities.
Working knowledge of IBC and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, FTA Guidelines, FTA Transit Safety and Security Certification Handbook.
Experience with building envelope and finishes construction, inspection, and testing.
Familiarity with ASTM construction materials testing including concrete, soils, grout, welding, moisture intrusion, etc.
Specialty certification or training is a plus. NACE, WACEL, AWS, SMACNA, etc.
Ability to interpret building plans and specifications
Ability to prepare technical correspondence
Construction project management experience a plus.
Familiarity with construction QA/QC program functions.
Degree in engineering or construction management preferred.
Must have the physical ability to navigate construction sites including climbing ladders, traversing sloped areas, and occasionally working at heights.
