FEMA-Disaster Response Environmental Specialists (Florida)

Are you looking for a rewarding and flexible job opportunity?  Why not get onboard with Dewberry?  We have been supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on disaster response and recovery assignments for over 25 years.  Dewberry is offering a wide range of career opportunities to those who want more than a job.  Would you like to be a member of our professional team that's committed to excellence and integrity?   Under an open-end A/E technical assistance contract, Dewberry is providing field assessments, engineer evaluations inspections of damaged public infrastructure, cost estimates, mitigation project evaluation, debris monitoring, environmental services, and design services on an on-call basis in the wake of natural and man-made disasters, including acts of terrorism on behalf of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) throughout the United States including the Caribbean and Pacific territories.

Dewberry is currently searching for highly qualified Environmental Specialists for our on-call team.  Candidates selected must be U.S. Citizens and able to successfully pass a Federal background investigation, to include financial and criminal history.  Successful candidates must be able to commit to a 3-6 month assignment in remote locations working in excess of 50 hours per week. 

Responsibilities

Environmental Specialists will serve as technical specialists involved in complex environmental programs that might include a variety of controversial and non-controversial components. Specialists will plan, coordinate, monitor, conduct, and complete environmental reviews for FEMA funded projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and all other applicable environmental and preservation laws, executive orders, regulations and other statutes.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related environmental field from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time professional experience in field of study
  • Prior FEMA Public Assistance experience in preferred
  • Must have experience conducting environmental reviews, identify project-specific environmental concerns that FEMA may need to address, provide technical assistance to managers and other personnel on environmental compliance responsibilities.
  • Specialist must have comprehensive knowledge and/or experience with the Federal laws and statues including:
    • NEPA, the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, Endangered Species Act, Coastal Barrier Resources Act, Coastal Zone Management Act, E.O. 11593 Cultural Environmental; National Historic Preservation Act, Archaeological and Historic Preservation Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and E.O. 12898 Environmental Justice
  • Knowledge of statues, regulations, licensing/permitting requirements for planning, implementing, or monitoring environmental programs and services.
  • Floodplain experience is a plus but not required
  • Must have excellent verbal and technical writing skills
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel)
  • Must be able to work in team environment
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
