Pennsylvania – Business Development Leader


A progressive business development leader for Transportation, with responsibility for Pennsylvania (PennDOT, the Turnpike Commission, etc.) and Philadelphia Agencies providing strategic leadership to grow the transportation practice through a combination of better relationships, better focus, new services and new geographies within Pennsylvania. To leverage market knowledge in the Philadelphia Region to open a Philadelphia area office when opportunities and positioning warrant as critical to winning work. Through relationships and working with the Site/Civil Service Line explore opportunities to grow our private sector practice.


  • The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:


    • Growing transportation services in Pennsylvania through the leadership and coordination of business development efforts among the Transportation Service Line, Business Unit client managers, technical and operations staff.
    • Increasing Dewberry’s visibility through active participation in the transportation industry with regional, state and local organizations.
    • With regional leadership, develop specific strategies for increasing the firm’s market share and expanding the geographic coverage and services.
    • Strong engagement with talent management, business performance, marketing, procurement process (proposal, pricing and contracting) and quality initiatives.
    • Active in Public Involvement on high profile projects

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration. Master’s Degree in any of the above fields is a plus.
  • Appropriate education or equivalent practical experience needed to understand the major technical, organizational, managerial, and business issues involved in architecture and engineering design marketing and sales.
  • Minimum 20 years of experience and proven track record of successful client development, revenue generation and business development with engineering organizations of similar size and complexity.
  • Broad experience in the transportation industry including engineering design and engineering organization operations management.
    • Strong verbal and communication skills and experience.
    • Industry leader with the proven ability to anticipate, articulate, and respond to national/regional issues that impact the transportation business and the construction industry.
      • Proven knowledge of and relationships with PennDOT and the PA Turnpike Commission
      • Professional network and relationships with engineering teaming partners and construction contractors.
        • Proven experience with planning, design, and construction phase services.
        • Proven experience with the full spectrum of alternative delivery systems, as well as ability to assess feasibility of alternative delivery prospects.
