    Dewberry is an ENR top 50 design firm operating throughout the United States and has a top 15 presence in New York City.  Dewberry has had a continuous presence and a robust design office in New York City for over 60 years.  Currently we provide full service engineering services for facilities and infrastructure projects.  The facilities engineering practice includes a fully staffed and mature Building Structures Engineering and Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing/Fire Protection design group.  Supporting engineering groups include civil, geotechnical and environmental engineering.    The Building Structures Group and MEP Engineering Group have a varied resume, including commercial and institutional buildings, new construction, renovation and rehabilitation, waterfront structures, transit and rail facilities, and energy projects.  The majority of the client base is public sector, but a more diverse public-private balance is desirable.  They have delivered projects using both the design-bid-build and design build procurement methodologies.  Technical tools and technical systems are in place including state of the art analysis software, quality control procedures, and production platforms including design standards and project delivery in BIM.


    As part of Dewberry’s current plan to expand our overall volume of work in the New York metropolitan area, we intend to hire a Group Leader of Structural & MEP Engineering to enhance our ability to provide a quality work product, better serve our existing clients and expand our client base. We are searching for an individual who would be interested in a bigger challenge to enhance our current operation and meet our growth goals.


    The Group Leader of Structural & MEP Engineering will lead and manage the Building Structures and MEP groups.   Duties include managing the day to day operations of these Departments, leading a highly talented and competent staff, business development, allocating resources, planning and monitoring work flow, corporate and branch level reporting, planning and budgeting, proposal preparation, interacting with other Dewberry groups and offices, and collaborating closely with the New York office senior leadership team which consists of relationship management, marketing, accounting and senior officers of the firm.  In addition to these duties, the Facilities Director will be called upon to manage complex multi-discipline projects utilizing both design/build and design/bid/build delivery methodologies.

    Required Skills & Required Experience

    The successful candidate should possess the following:

    1. A strong technical background in building structures engineering and a working knowledge of MEP building system engineering, including a minimum of 17 years of experience.
    2. A NY State PE.
    3. Strong leadership talents and demonstrated success supervising people.
    4. Experience in managing multi-discipline design teams.
    5. Private sector building structures experience managing projects and clients is highly desirable.
    6. Experience in managing staff utilization and maintaining project manpower budgets.
    7. Experience in developing public sector client proposals, including technical and fee proposals.
    8. Knowledge of the A/E marketplace in the NY Metropolitan Area.
    9. A strong desire to engage in business development activities in order to meet growth, client diversity, and profit goals.
