    Dewberry is currently seeking multiple Project Managers/Design Managers for select natural gas clients (regulated utility and transmission companies). The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full range of planning and design services for individual projects and task orders. He/she will be assigned multiple projects and the more challenging projects and will need to coordinate with other committed project managers and project delivery teams in several offices in VA and MD.  Additional role will involve providing quality assurance reviews of deliverables and services by others and performing periodic  audits of natural gas clients.  Projects will range from conducting planning and feasibility assessments of existing and proposed pipelines and facilities to complete design and construction document preparation for complex linear large diameter pipeline systems.  Many projects require rapid response of fee proposals and quick turnaround of plans and permitting for repairs to small diameter distribution lines, routing studies for expanding gas services, environmental assessments, agency permitting, easement and land acquisition services and infrastructure enhancements for regulating stations.

     

    The successful candidate will manage and coordinate multidisciplinary teams including but not limited to engineers, planners, designers, surveyors, landscape architects, environmental scientists and technicians to meet client expectations.  

     

    *This position has the potential to work out of the following Dewberry offices: Baltimore, MD; Gainesville, VA; Richmond, VA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC.

    Responsibilities

    • Developing fee proposals that incorporate the full range of professional consulting services (scope, schedule, budget, and quality of deliverables).
    • Monitoring the scope, schedules, quality of deliverables, and budgets and be proactive in making project adjustments as needed.  
    • Communicating with client project managers, subject matter experts, project staff and other project managers on a regular basis.
    • Providing regular updates regarding progress and schedule to the client and writing proposals and change orders to adjust scope and budgets with the client as necessary.
    • Maintaining compliance with client contracting requirements including sub-consultant contracts.
    • Supervising, training, coaching, and mentoring engineers and committed project staff to achieve continuous quality improvement.
    • Coordinating with regulatory agency staff, local authorities, political bodies, and other external contacts.

    Required Skills & Required Experience

    • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related engineering or science field required.  M.S. degree preferred.
    • Professional Engineer license in Virginia and/or Maryland, with ability to obtain PE for both states and DC.
    • Minimum 7 years of full-time experience as a civil engineer, utility planner or related discipline.
    • Relevant project management experience combined with and market sector knowledge of natural gas and energy industry.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Ability to track and coordinate many tasks and projects concurrently.
    • Understanding of and ability to navigate the regulatory environment for natural gas and energy projects in Virginia, Maryland and DC.
    • Design experience & knowledge relating to EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations and advisory documents, including Advisory Bulletin ADB 2015-01.
    • Understanding of piping & storage schematics, standard drawings, process flow sheets, piping & instrumentation diagrams for gas supply production & storage facilities (such as process air or gas, propane, fuel gas, steam, starting air, cathodic protection, odorant, control loops, etc.).
    • Safety  awareness and advocacy including ability to proactively coach and mentor others for identifying and addressing potential hazardous conditions throughout the planning, design and construction phases.
    • Experience using technologies for communications and work-sharing to seamlessly connect with task managers and project managers in multiple office locations
    • Ability to successfully manage a team to achieve client and company goals and objectives.

     

    Position can lead to a Practice Builder role in Mid-Atlantic Region and Dewberry with increased responsibilities for business development, client management and market sector growth initiatives in the energy/power fields.
