    Dewberry is currently seeking a Design Build Project Manager for our Fairfax, VA office.  Ideal candidate will be responsible for executing and managing Energy Solutions and or Dewberry Design Build Implementation projects that will range in size and complexity to achieve project deadlines and financial expectations. This is a customer facing role that requires the coordination and management of both internal and external resources to deliver project expectations. This position will direct engineers, field personnel, subcontractors, and other technical support staff as needed. Different project management functional areas of expertise may include Design- Build, Construction (HVAC and Electrical) Renovation, Retro-fit, and modification of building HVAC, Electrical, and Energy Systems, This position will functionally report directly to a Unit Team Leader and will as well as related business development tasks such as generating fee proposals. This position requires significant client interaction. Significant tasks also include scheduling, document preparation, inspections and testing, report generation, problem resolution, quality assurance, and development of sales opportunities. Typically this position is filled by persons who have been continuously performing project management of mechanical/electrical focused construction projects for 5 years or more, or by persons who can demonstrate a record of successful project execution and leadership according to Dewberry at Work core principles and values.


    • Significant tasks include scheduling, document preparation, inspections and testing, report generation, problem resolution, quality assurance, and development of sales opportunities.
    • Where required, negotiate with other offices or managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.
    • Develop and apply risk identification and management tools – that are applicable to the type and complexity of the project.
    • Ensure project technical compliance with design documents.
    • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
    • Liaise with project stakeholders (Building Owners, sub-contractors, Architects, Engineers, and management) on an ongoing basis.
    • Apply Dewberry engineering standards as well as industry standards i.e. executing work according to applicable industry standards ASHRAE , ASME, NFPA to ensure compliance with codes and project quality delivery
    • Set and continually manage project expectations with project team members and other stakeholders.
    • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
    • Plan, schedule, and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
    • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
    • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
    • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and develop contingency plans.
    • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
    • Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
    • Participate in project post mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.



    Required Skills & Required Experience


    • Ability to effectively interact at all levels of an organization and effectively communicate with high profile customers.
    • As required – develop and deliver training on energy and project management content.
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred in mechanical engineering, construction management, civil engineering, or architectural engineering.       Other engineering degrees accepted, however demonstrated experience and knowledge in mechanical disciplines required. Appropriate combination of experience, training, and license/certification accepted.
    • See table above for years of experience managing and/or developing complex projects. Experience with energy projects, facility engineering, HVAC, assessment/planning, peer review, design and/or consulting services (HVAC and automated controls and/or construction/renovation projects is strongly preferred (functional expertise expectations will vary according to functional PM focus).
    • Experience in Construction Administration and documentation procedures
    • Some experience with the process of Building Commissioning
    • Experience with California- specific codes, ordinances, and regulations relative to construction and engineering.
    • Experience managing projects using Project Management Software, MS Project, Deltek, Primavera or similar
    • Demonstrated experience with HVAC Control, BAS, Automation, piping installation, ductwork installation, Electrical installation, is preferred
    • Contractor’s License is a plus. Ability to attain contractor’s license(s) is strongly preferred.
    • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience in cost estimating, estimating software, and methods required
    • Must be highly proficient with a PC including the Microsoft Applications and project management applications/packages (MS Project and other risk management tools) and risk management tools
    • Willingness to travel
    • Must possess strong leadership competencies and willingness to collaborate and work cross functionally to maximize business results and positive customer experiences.

    • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and strong business acumen – including ability to effectively apply risk management tools/logic to various phases of a project.

    • Must possess a strong interpersonal style and approach that earns customer trust and builds creditability while also getting strong performance of subcontractors and others involved in the fulfillment of a project.



    • Professional Engineer or Contracting License

    • PMP or LEED Certification
