    Water/Wastewater Department Manager


    Dewberry is seeking a Department Manager to lead our growing water practice within our Parsippany, NJ office. This is an opportunity for an individual with technical experience and business acumen to provide leadership to a team of professionals working in a collaborative and dynamic environment, applying the latest technology to a wide variety of water resource related projects. This position will encompass responsibility for all aspects of water/wastewater services including personnel and project management, quality control, business development, marketing and client interface.


    • Lead group project managers in executing all facets of projects from start to finish and ensure our services meet a high standard of quality.
    • Assist group project managers with client management responsibilities with regard to contracts, project scope, progress reporting, schedule, resources, invoicing, collections, and budget control.
    • Train, coach and mentor water staff. 
    • Lead group business development with local client base, build and maintain strong client relationships.
    • Assist Business Unit Manager in achieving annual office marketing goals including business development, proposals, presentations and market development for assigned market sector(s).
    • Interact with other regional and national Water Service Line Leads in achieving growth objectives, strategic initiatives, collaboration and support of a NY/NJ regional water practice.
    • Effectively interface with clients, regulators and manage sub-consultants.
    • Provide technical review, oversight, and mentoring of water Project Managers and technical staff
    • Target, pursue and win work with public agencies with a strong preference for knowledge of New Jersey state and local contracting. 
    • Achieve Growth objectives - demonstrated track record for achieving revenue and staff growth that involves strategy and implementation of strategy. 
    • P&L management with the ability to appropriately price engineering and consulting projects and then execute these projects profitably. 

    Required Skills & Required Experience

    • Bachelor's degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in civil engineering, preferably with concentration in water
    • PE License in New Jersey is required.
    • 15+ years of escalating professional experience in water engineering
    • Project Management expertise in private, local, state and federal level contracts with a strong preference for knowledge of New Jersey state and local contracting.
    • Track record for managing growth that involves strategy and implementation of strategy. 
    • Financial management skills with the ability to appropriately price engineering and consulting projects and execute these projects profitably. 
    • High competency levels in multiple disciplines including water supply engineering, modeling, wastewater infrastructure design, pumping stations and associated regulatory permitting
    • Proven ability to effectively achieve growth of market share through business development including experience preparing complex proposals (technical and cost) for public and private sector clients.
    • Experience managing a team of professionals with a wide array water skills sets.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Floodplain Manager Certification (CFM) is a plus.
    • LEED accreditation is a plus.
    • Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required.
