    Business Unit Manager


    The Parsippany, NJ Manager will be primarily responsible for the strategic development and growth, and overall operational performance of Dewberry’s operations in the New Jersey Commercial market. Priority will be on building capacity and talent, and growing the client base in growth areas and service lines: Site/Civil (Land Development, Energy, etc), Telecommunications and Water/Wastewater.


    The successful candidate will be a Professional Engineer with a diverse engineering background and evidence of strong advancement in management responsibilities. The candidate will have clearly demonstrated expertise and success in managing and motivating multiple discipline teams, developing and executing client and business development strategies that drive revenue and profit margin growth, and partnering with internal and external partners. The selected candidate must understand and have in-depth private sector market knowledge and experience, client relationships in the New Jersey market and proven success in growing an engineering and consulting practice.

    Thorough understanding of the regional market with specific focus, to include:

    • In depth knowledge of and strong relationships with New Jersey Commercial, primarily in the Land Development, Water and Utility markets.
    • Knowledge of entities and decision-makers, as well as regional socio-political context and history.
    • Strong network to access; key decision makers, external regional leadership and prospective colleagues and teaming partners, and construction industry leaders.

    Must possess and exhibit strong leadership skills, including:

    • Strong communicator, motivator and influencer for managing an entrepreneurial initiative that will bridge current capabilities with a forward-looking vision of Dewberry’s future in the New Jersey region
    • Able to co-create and share a common vision with Dewberry corporate and regional leadership for the region that invigorates client relationships and partnerships and motivates internal staff to identify new opportunities and market potential.
    • Politically astute and able to understand the business development and operational requirements in client relationships
    • Able to interpret and leverage Dewberry strengths for cross-selling across service lines.
    • Able to work closely and productively with Dewberry NE Region and enterprise leadership to drive positive results in the regional markets.

    Required Skills & Required Experience


    • Minimum 20 years of experience as a consulting engineer with a minimum of 10 years in the New Jersey Commercial market working with private and/or public sector clients and projects.
    • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in managing a diverse engineering practice and a lead operational role with P&L responsibilities.
    • Active engagement in the engineering consulting industry with heavy civil infrastructure planning, design and construction.
    • Thorough understanding of the New Jersey market; strong relationships with decision makers in with private entities.
    • Bachelor of Engineering Degree; advanced engineering degrees or an MBA a plus
    • New Jersey PE.

    • Ability to serve as Project Manager on projects of significance.
    • Demonstrated ability to build strong trusting relationships (internal to an organization and external with clients and teaming partners) for success.
    • Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required.
