Job Description

Dewberry has an immediate full-time opening for an experienced Engineer IV– Natural Gas in the Richmond VA office. The selected candidate will become part of a growing team that practices total project consulting and provides comprehensive services to a wide variety of energy and commercial infrastructure clients.

This position requires natural gas distribution and transmission system subject matter knowledge, including local, state, federal, DOT 192, and ASME requirements. Have experience and knowledge of typical natural gas utility applications such as GIS, system modeling, and work management systems. This position is responsible for engineering varying size projects related to distribution and transmission and related facilities including gate stations, pressure reducing stations, accelerated replacement programs, new business, TIMP, DIMP, and FIMP.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project engineering and design on projects.
  • Prepare engineering plans, profiles, specifications, equipment/bill of materials, calculations, reports, and perform quality control review.
  • Prepare bid and construction packages.
  • Prepare RFI responses and review shop drawings.
  • Work with other engineering and planning disciplines for project permitting and easement acquisitions.
  • Prepare routing studies and plans for gas distribution and transmission pipeline projects.
  • Prepare and complete quality management system checklists, document management and project audits.
  • Represent Dewberry and projects with city, county, state and federal agencies.
  • Project work will span regulated gas utility projects, private commercial projects, and advance of pavement projects.
  • Assists with scope and fee determinations for proposed engineering services.
  • Assists with preparation of weekly schedules and task coordination.
  • Assists with training/mentoring of staff.
  • Coordinates design review process and permitting through outside agencies and assistance with client coordination.
  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as necessary

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or equivalent technical degree
  • Registration as a professional engineer in DC, MD or VA is required. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of engineering work experience in the natural gas or liquid pipeline industry. Preferred experience at pipeline operating company or at an engineering consulting firm.
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and staff members
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong knowledge of the regulated gas industry
  • Unquestioned business and personal integrity
