Job Description

Dewberry has an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer with at least 15 years of experience with an emphasis on the design and construction of hydraulic steel structures in riverine and coastal environments. The Principal Engineer will serve as Dewberry’s national technical lead on planning, engineering, and construction of large-scale flood resilience and water related projects in coastal and riverine environments. The Principal Engineer will also participate in the development of proposals, lead business development, present at conferences, participate in professional organizations, and will have the opportunity to grow nationally. The Principal Engineer will be involved in development of a hydraulic structure design team to support various projects across the Dewberry enterprise and will play a critical role to support Dewberry’s Resilience Growth Initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Candidate should be able to perform engineering analysis; develop preliminary and detailed designs of hydraulic steel structures such as flood control gates, storm surge barriers, rolling and swing gates; write specifications; and develop construction documents.
  • Be the hydraulic structures engineer of record.
  • Support leadership to develop a team of professionals that delivers multi-disciplinary flood resilience projects.
  • Develop strong client relationships.
  • Lead a structural design team of professionals on large design projects.
  • Participate in strategy and capture planning on pursuits of large design projects.
  • Provide technical services for resilience, water resources, and hazard mitigation projects within the municipal, regional, and federal markets.
  • Communicate with clients, establish budget, performance and schedule goals for task teams, and deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the performance expectations of the client.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BS or MS degree preferably in Mechanical, Marine, or Structural Engineering (with an emphasis in design of hydraulic structures in marine environments).
  • At least 15 years of experience in marine engineering, flood resilience, flood control and water resources
  • Demonstrated performance as hydraulic structures engineer of record on built projects. 
  • Professional Engineer License and ability to apply for reciprocity in various states
  • Progressive experience conducting client engagement and project delivery for marine and resilience projects in coastal communities
  • Knowledge of USACE, ABS, FEMA, PIANC, I-STORM, ASME, AWS and similar agencies standards and procedures for design.
  • Knowledge of coastal engineering, riverine engineering and offshore marine engineering is a plus.
  • Candidate must have strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience using CAD programs such as Solidworks, AutoCAD, Microstation and others.
  • Experience using Finite Element Models such as SAP 2000, ANSYS, ABAQUS and others.
  • Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), is a plus.
  • A clean driving record is required.

Salary Range

The projected range for this position is $175,000-$225,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly. These ranges are for NY only.
