Job Description

Dewberry Design-Builders team is looking for a Estimator.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for generating all estimating deliverables in support of project teams.

 

Candidates located near Ashland, NC or Raleigh, NC preferred.

Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Generate consistent and accurate pricing, ability to develop accurate conceptual cost models.
  • Understanding construction methods, productivity, equipment, systems and materials.
  • Keep track of current material & labor pricing including escalation.
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors & material vendors.
  • Make meaningful value engineering contributions.
  • Ability to reconcile estimates with other consultants & design team.
  • Serves as “Job Captain” for pre-construction efforts.
  • Quantity take-off and pricing accuracy.
  • Strategic Bid Preparation to include efficiency strategies and competitive pricing.
  • Preparing technical narratives.
  • Complete subcontractor/vendor solicitation.
  • Understand and analyze proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate as well as code related compliance.
  • Prepare bid packages and create scopes of work.
  • Conduct detailed review of bids for scope gaps and ensure adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Track awarded contracts as required to include: estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, assist in development of project preplan.
  • Expand database of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Develop, improve and maintain in-house procedures for the estimating department.

Required Skills & Required Experience

Required Experience and Education

  • 5+ years of  experience in estimating, cost control, and/or engineering (at least six years estimating experience) in commercial construction within all divisions. projects having estimated costs ranging from $100,000 to $15,000,000.
  • Estimating experience from conceptual thru construction document phases required.
  • Knowledge of estimating software such as Timberline, Cost Works, RS Means, MCACE, or others.
  • 4 year degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, Construction management, Architectural Engineering or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Technical knowledge of various mechanical and electrical systems as well as experience in all structural/architectural disciplines and code and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong interpersonal and Client facing skills, Ability to coordinate and steer group efforts essential.
  • Technologically oriented with proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Industry relationships with construction design, and other relevant trade partners considered a plus.
