Responsibilities

In this role, you will deploy to a disaster site to support FEMA in the delivery of a disaster recovery program. As a Claims Project Manager, you will lead a team working to process disaster damage claims for compensation. Your team works with claimants or claimant representatives to assist with claim submissions, including identifying required documentation to complete a proof of loss.  You support their work to assess claims of disaster-related structure damage and review claim files to ensure program eligibility in accordance with current policy, guidance and procedure, while working to provide compensation as soon as possible. You may review others’ work for quality assurance and control or support the review of claimant appeals of a claim denial to determine feasibility. Claims Project Managers provide training and mentoring on claim process and procedure. They are responsible for monitoring and rebalancing workloads and the preparation of progress and ad hoc reports.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • High School Diploma; BS Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of combined experience in claim/case processing roles including customer service, data entry, reviewing, and evaluating various types of disaster related losses.
  • Policy Interpretation: Ability to understand and interpret complex federal policy language, including relevant statutes, regulations, policies, guidance, and directions.
  • Technical Knowledge: Disaster-related knowledge and background to accurately assess losses, damages, repairs, and replacement costs.
  • Clear and Effective Communication: Customer service, excellent written and verbal communication skills and knowledge and ability to explain policy and regulations to claimants, FEMA staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Use of Technology: Proficiency in using claims management software, databases, and other technology tools that facilitate claim processing, documentation, and communication. Must be proficient with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Personnel and Program Management: Ability to manage a team using clear and effective communication, ability to workload manage team members, ability to provide technical advisement to team members, and ability to address and escalate all personnel issues.
  • Reporting: Ability to provide strong reporting and metrics evaluation and data to assist the team leads. Ability to support ancillary tasks for team lead and team members to efficiently process claims.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively provide support to colleagues to assist with all aspects of the claims process. Must have strong interpersonal and customer relations skills including public speaking, as well as the ability to deliver training to a large group of staff.
  • Proficiency with Xactimate software is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen capable of passing a federal background investigation to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
