Responsibilities

Environmental Scientist or Landscape Architect Responsibilities:
 
In this role, you will deploy to a disaster site to support the delivery of a disaster recovery program. Responsibilities will include assessments of disaster-damaged structures and the review and analysis of the event or planned facility restoration impact to the environment in accordance with federal law, executive order, regulation and policy. You may assess the potential impacts to plant and animal species and their habitat, conduct biological assessments and surveys to determine the potential impact to endangered species in accordance with criteria. Typical experience is for projects involving site design for parks and recreation, multi-family, mixed-use, life science, commercial, arborist focused, and capital improvement projects.. Experience in horticultural projects, including planting, pruning, and maintaining healthy plant ecosystems, Experience in a horticultural or agricultural setting is a plus. 

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • A Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture or Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or related field is required. Master's degree is a plus. 
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) licensure is a plus. 
  • Proficiency in watershed, ecology, habitat evaluations, horticultural projects, soil, hydrology, vegetation inventory, arborist, and plant identifications. Experience performing ecological assessments including field work in a variety of seasonal conditions.  
  • Expert understanding of federal environmental law, regulation and policy. 
  • Experience in the landscape, animal and plant species, and the environmental conditions of the Southwest United States. 
  • Strong technical writing skills and experience preparing high-quality documents and reports involving complex technical issues. 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to explain policy and regulations to project stakeholders.  
  • Must be computer literate and proficient with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel and Outlook) 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen capable of passing a federal background investigation to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
