Job Description

Dewberry's is seeking a Deputy Business Unit Manager for our Owings Mills, MD office as part of our Transportation Engineering business unit. The individual selected for this position will lead and manage a team of professionals working on a wide range of infrastructure projects in the mid-Atlantic region. This is an opportunity for an individual to join a team of energetic, highly engaged staff, and the ideal candidate will have a proven track-record of effective growth leadership, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work with clients, engineers and other technicians on a variety of projects from preliminary through final design and construction. With support from the enterprise, the successful candidate will be capable of leading business development activities, operations management, and oversight of technical deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a staff of over 25 engineers and professionals.
  • Leading and/or supervising transportation engineers and environmental scientists during pursuit and delivery of transportation projects.
  • Plans, schedules, or coordinates the preparation of engineering documents and activities for multiple projects.
  • Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable company policies and performance measures.
  • Oversees and participates in personnel actions, hiring, and performance reviews.
  • Assigns and oversees responsibilities for business development, proposal writing and fee development.
  • Manages multiple clients.
  • Highly motivated to achieve business goals while at the same time investing and building for longer term growth and stability.
  • Powerful implementation and execution skills.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BS in Engineering with 20+ years of engineering and project management experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland is required.
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer licenses in other states as needed.
  • Ability to serve as Project Manager on projects of significance.
  • Strong relationships with decision makers in public agencies.
  • Experience with MDOT SHA.
  • Strategic development and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong communicator, motivator, and influencer of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong trusting relationships.
  • Ability to recruit, select, develop, and retain staff.

 

The projected range for this position is $170,000 - $230,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.

 

Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.
