Job Description

Dewberry is seeking a GIS Specialist to support enterprise geospatial operations through mapping, data management, and analysis. This role provides core GIS production, database maintenance, and user support, contributing to the successful delivery of geospatial products and services across a range of programs. The GIS Specialist works under the guidance of senior staff to develop and maintain geospatial datasets, produce high-quality maps and analytical products, and support enterprise GIS systems and workflows.

Responsibilities

Mapping & Geospatial Production

  • Develop maps, graphics, and tabular outputs to support project and program needs
  • Perform spatial data processing and cartographic production using ESRI tools
  • Ensure outputs meet defined standards for accuracy, consistency, and usability
  • Review GIS products for data accuracy and adherence to user requirements and output criteria
  • Apply established quality control procedures to ensure reliability of deliverables

 

Database Support & Maintenance

  • Assist in the design, maintenance, and updating of geospatial databases and geodatabases
  • Support data management activities, including editing, validation, and organization of spatial datasets
  • Maintain logs, records, and documentation for GIS data and workflows

 

Application & System Support

  • Assist with configuration and use of ArcGIS Online and other GIS platforms
  • Support maintenance systems and applications through routine updates and troubleshooting
  • Provide general GIS assistance to project teams and end users

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5 years of GIS experience using ESRI software in a production or project environment
  • Coursework or experience in cartography and/or graphic design
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and core ESRI software tools
  • Experience with geodatabase editing, data management, and spatial analysis
  • Familiarity with Python or geoprocessing tools for basic automation (preferred but not required)
  • Understanding of mapping standards, cartographic principles, and spatial data quality
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality
  • Ability to follow established workflows and standards
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Willingness to learn new tools and technologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ArcGIS Online for content management and collaboration
  • Completion of relevant ESRI training courses (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, Python scripting, geoprocessing, lidar data management, map design) within the past two years (may substitute for some experience)
  • Exposure to enterprise GIS environments or multidisciplinary project teams

Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.
